U.S. Army Corps of Engineers request public comment on Proposed Plan at Hanna City Air Force Station

Published May 8, 2013

LOUISVILLE, KY. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers invites the public to review and comment on the Proposed Plan for remedial action at the former Hanna City Air Force Station, a Formerly Used Defense Site in Hanna City, Illinois.

The site was used by the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1968 as a radar tracking and investigation facility.  The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has recently completed a study of the former Hanna City Air Force Station concerning potential military munitions and alternatives for further action.

Surface soil exceeding values based on the Illinois Tiered Approach to Corrective Action Objectives (TACO) Tier 1 industrial/commercial remediation goals will be removed. These remediation goals will be protective of receptors under current land use, and will also be protective of residential users should the property be converted to residential use in the future. The preferred alternative is presented in the proposed plan. Copies of the Proposed Plan are available for public review in the Farmington Area Public District Library, 266 East Fort Street, Farmington, Illinois, (309)-245-2175.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers encourages you to comment on the Proposed Plan during the 30-day Public Comment Period, May 3 through June 1, 2013.  Written comments may be submitted by mail, postmarked no later than June 1, 2013 to the following address: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District, Attn: Dr. David Brancato, 600 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Place, Louisville, Kentucky, 40202.  Public comments received during this period will be considered in the final decision-making process for the former Hanna City Air Force Base.

A public meeting will be held at the Hanna City Park District Gymnasium located at 511 Main Street, Hanna City, Illinois. The public meeting will be held on Monday, May 20, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. for the public to ask questions and submit comments and concerns in person regarding the recommended cleanup plan.
