Many Army Corps of Engineers campsites closed due to high water

Published May 15, 2010

Louisville, KY – The effects of heavy rains in central Kentucky nearly two weeks ago are still being felt at area Corps lakes.  Due to persistent high lake pools in the Green River some campsites will be closed at Barren River Lake, Green River Lake, Nolin River Lake, and Rough River Lake until at least May 20th.

Visitors who are concerned about their campsite reservations are encouraged to first call the National Recreation Reservation Service Customer Service direct line at 1-888-448-1474. Campers may also call 1-877-444-6777 or visit www.recreation.gov for information about their existing camping reservation or to check the availability for Memorial Day Holiday weekend.

The campsites will be re-evaluated on May 20 and will be re-opened as the waters recede. Some of the recreation facilities and amenities such as boat ramps, picnic shelters, restrooms and playgrounds may remain closed even as campgrounds begin to reopen.

Customers with existing reservations for closed sites due to flooding will be given the option for a full refund or moving their reservation to another available site with no service charge.
