Published Sept. 10, 2011

LOUISVILLE, KY. –  The Middle Wabash Area lake managers and rangers are participating in the 3rd annual Hoosier Outdoor Experience Sept. 17-18 at Fort Benjamin Harrison State Park - the former Army post - in Indianapolis, Ind. The natural resource management staff will have a water safety booth along with a patrol boat, Seamoor the Sea Serpent, freebies, and life jacket demonstrations.

The Hoosier Outdoor Experience is Indiana’s largest, hands-on outdoor recreation event. Featuring more than 50 FREE activities and 120 grassroots partners, this weekend provides opportunities to learn about the great Indiana outdoors.

"It’s important to remind people both young and old to wear their life jackets when they are on the water," said Da vid Cable, Army Corps of Engineer Middle Wabash Operations Manager for the south central lakes in Indiana.
Cable said that children who visit the Corps booth will especially enjoy "Seamoor." Seamoor the Sea Serpent is a clever creative way that kids can understand water safety. He is a colorful mechanized robotic creature that rides a mini jet ski and talks.

Seamoor’s Water Safety Messages:
1. Never mix water and alcohol.
2. Learn to swim.
3. Always wear your life jacket; do not use inflatable toys or rafts as life saving devices.
4. Always swim in a designated swimming area.
5. Never leave children without adult supervision and never swim alone.
6. Watch for tree stumps and other obstructions in low water.
