ROUGH RIVER LAKE, KY. — U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Louisville District plans to conduct major preventative maintenance work on the Rough River Lake Dam, Falls of Rough, Ky. beginning in the fall of 2013.

Rough River Dam was completed and placed in service in 1958 and held record high water levels during the flood event in 2011.Corps dams undergo continuous monitoring for public safety, and assessments of Rough River Dam indicate a need for major preventative maintenance to extend its safe functionality well into the future.

The District anticipates funding to begin the necessary construction in 2014.

The duration of the dam maintenance work is estimated at three to five years, depending upon what conditions are encountered during initial phases of the project and weather conditions during the project. Traffic on State Highway 79 will be maintained across the dam to minimize disruption to travelers.Changes to lake operations that would impact normal public use will be minimized as much as possible.
