First of two contracts awarded in Rough River Dam repair project

Published May 30, 2006

LOUISVILLE, KY – HTA Enterprises Inc. of Louisville, Ky., has been awarded the contract to perform the spillway remediation and rock toe repair at Rough River Dam in Falls of Rough, Ky.

The work includes raising KY 79 across the dam and constructing a concrete barrier wall along the upstream side of the new road to correct the spillway deficiency.  The work also includes repairing the rock toe at the downstream toe of the dam.

Construction to raise the top of the dam and perform the repair to the rock toe will begin in June 2006 and should be completed within 270 calendar days.  Soil excavated from the toe of the dam will be temporarily stockpiled adjacent to the airport runway.

During the construction, access across the dam will be limited to one lane of traffic while the new pavement is laid and the permanent barrier is placed.  Automated traffic control signals will be positioned at each end of the dam to regulate the one-way traffic flow.

In addition, public access to the outlet bucket and tailwater fishing area will be restricted.  However, the state park tailwater campground will remain open.  A temporary entrance to the campsite will be constructed through the parking lot of the Corps’ project office.

At the request of event organizers, no work will be performed from July 20-23, 2006 to accommodate participants and spectators of the Official Kentucky State Championship Old Time Fiddlers Contest in the tailwater area.

The contract was awarded to HTA Enterprises Inc. on May 26, 2006.
