Louisville, KY --
LOUISVILLE, KY –The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District’s Corps-managed day use recreational areas (such as hiking trails, tailwater fishing areas, restrooms and small picnic shelters with limited capacity) will reopen Friday, May 15 in alignment with the State of Ohio’s reopening plan.
This applies to the following Louisville District Lakes in the Miami River Area in Ohio:
Caesar Creek Lake, William H. Harsha Lake, West Fork Lake, C.J. Brown Dam & Reservoir.
While these day use areas will be accessible for visitors to enjoy, a return to full operations will continue to be phased and services may be limited. For example: playgrounds and water fountains will remain closed at this time. All visitor centers and Corps offices remain closed to the public and all special events and large gatherings remain postponed/cancelled in the interest of public safety.
With the exception of one boat ramp at William H. Harsha Lake, all boat ramps and campgrounds at Corps lakes in Ohio are managed by state agencies. We recommend the public contact the respective state agencies for the latest on their operating status.
Protecting the health and safety of the recreating public, volunteers, contractors and our personnel remains our highest priority. The Louisville District continues to assess the situation and will conduct a phased reopening of additional areas/events in alignment with current federal, state and CDC guidance. We will share those updates with the public as they become available.
USACE reminds all visitors to follow these steps to recreate responsibly: honor the 6-foot social distance rule, stay away from parks and recreation areas if you are sick or have symptoms, keep parks clean by practicing “pack in and pack out” etiquette, and always wear a life jacket when near the water.
