The lower pier shell number 5 at the end of the skid way is cause for Olmsted Division executive officer 1st Lt. Ian McBride to smile. The 2,700-ton shell is about to be loaded onto the waiting catamaran barge for transportation and placement in the dam under construction between Illinois and Kentucky in the lower Ohio River. With its placement the project will have achieved one more shell than was originally scheduled for placement this season, and it will mean only one more shell is left to complete the tainter-gate section of the dam.
