In-house designed, built
Project engineer Keith Fleck stands with the special dewatering box that was designed by Engineering Division and built by the Louisville Repair Station to repair the sills of the last wicket dams on the Ohio River at locks and dams 52 and 53. The customized mini-cofferdam is scheduled to be inaugurated in September on the Chanoine wicket sills at Locks and Dam 52. The 42.5-ton steel box will cover three wicket sills, and once pumped clear, will allow work to be down in dry conditions. Because of their deteriorated condition, repairs to both 52 and 53 are more frequent to keep them functioning until the Olmsted Locks and Dam replacement project becomes operational in 2020.
