U.S. Army Corps of Engineers opens campgrounds for 2007 season

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District will begin opening its campgrounds April 1-May 1 for the 2007 season.

Campgrounds operated by the Louisville District are located at Corps lakes within the region. Campground closings will begin in September.

The Laurel Branch Campground at Rough River Lake in Falls of Rough, Ky., is open year-round with limited facilities and services during the off-season.

The Littcarr Campground at Carr Creek Lake in Sassafras, Ky., opens April 1. The Buckhorn Campground at Buckhorn Lake in Buckhorn, Ky., opens April 13. The Bailey’s Point Campground at Buckhorn Lake, the Narrows and Tailwaters Campgrounds at Barren River Lake in Glasgow, Ky., the Holmes Bend, Pike Ridge and Smith Ridge Campgrounds at Green River Lake in Campbellsville, Ky., the Dog Creek, Moutardier and Wax Campgrounds at Nolin River Lake in Bee Spring, Ky., and the Axtel Campground at Rough River Lake all open April 20. The Trace Branch Campground and Boating-in Camping Area at Buckhorn Lake, the Cave Creek and North Fork Campground at Rough River Lake open May 1.

The Louisville District covers 76,000 square miles for water resources development defined by drainage basins in Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee. For support to military installations, the District comprises 306,000 square miles in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio. The District’s fiscal year 2007 budget is approximately $1.3 billion.
