Contractors recognized for hard work at Markland

Published Feb. 20, 2012

Construction workers installing four new culvert valves at Markland Locks and Dam in Warsaw, Ky., were presented with commander’s coins by Col. Keith Landry, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District Commander at Markland Feb. 18.

The workers, employed by subcontractor Aquarius Marine of Ludlow, Ky., endured frigid conditions the past few months replacing the 50-year old valves that regulate water flow in and out of the 1,200-foot lock chamber.

This work is being performed under the last of three American Recovery and Reinvestment Act contracts for the Markland Lock Major Rehabilitation Project, which has enabled the district to accelerate this critical navigation infrastructure rehabilitation project.
