“Waters of the U.S.” can be wetlands, swamps, marshes, streams, rivers, brooks, creeks, tributaries, branches, runs, ditches, ponds, lakes, bays, bayous, reservoirs, waterways, or other body or accumulation of water, public or private, natural or artificial. The definition of “waters of the U.S.”, including navigable and other waters, used by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) are found in the information below.

The Corps regulates the discharge of dredged and/or fill material into waters that are determined to be jurisdictional “waters of the U.S.”. For more information about jurisdictional determinations, please see the menu to the right of this webpage.
