Fishing with Veterans at Rough River Lake

ROUGH RIVER LAKE, KY. - The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Friends of Rough River Lake, and the Kentucky State Resort Park will host the first Fishing with Veterans event on May 11, 2013.

This event will consist of volunteer fisherman taking a disabled veteran out fishing on Rough River Lake for the morning. A cookout type lunch will be provided at noon for all volunteers, participating veterans and their families. All Veterans will be supplied with a fishing pole and tackle for them to use the day of the event. Fishing license requirement has been waived on May 11th for the disabled veteran anglers participating in the event. If you are a disabled Veteran and interested in participating please contact the number below to register for the event we are limited to 40 disabled Veterans.

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP: We are in need of anglers willing to donate their time and vessel to take our Veteran participants fishing from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM. We are also in need of experienced pontoon boat operators (boats provided) willing to take a participating disabled Veteran and their family members out on the lake from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM. If you would like to help please contact the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rough River Lake Project Office at 270-257-2061. All volunteers must be pre-registered through our office.

Fishing with Veterans will be held on Rough River Lake, Grayson County, Kentucky and all registered volunteers and participating Veterans will need to meet by 7:00 AM at the Rough River Dam State Resort Park boat ramp. The event will begin with registration and pairing up at the boat ramp the morning of May 11. Upon completion of registration all participants will be free to fish for a few hours before meeting back at the picnic shelter below the lodge for lunch and recognition.
