Open for safe summer fun: Barren, Nolin and Rough River Army Corps of Engineers lakes report status of recreation areas

Louisville, Ky. – Army Corps of Engineers lakes in the Green River area have reported that virtually all flood impacts from the May 2010 flood have been neutralized and all recreation sites are open minus swimming areas at Barren River Lake.

At Rough River Lake, all recreation sites including the beaches are open. Nolin River Lake and Green River Lake report that all recreation facilities are open.

At Barren River Lake, all boat ramps are accessible for boat launching with the exception of Port Oliver which is under construction.   All campgrounds will be fully open and operational by July 2 for the holiday weekend.  All designated beaches are still underwater and will remain closed until the lake is closer to summer pool and buoy lines can be repaired. 

Holiday lake visitors will note an increase in boat traffic at Army Corps of Engineers lakes. Patience, safe boating practices and wearing life jackets will help ensure a safe holiday weekend on the water.
