Construction worker killed at Olmsted Lock and Dam job site

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A contract worker was killed in a construction incident June 1 at approximately 1:35 CDT at Olmsted Locks and Dam, Olmsted, Ill.

Robert R. Billingsley, 54, of Vienna, Ill., employee of a joint venture between URS Washington Division, Boise, Idaho, and Alberici Constructors, St. Louis, was securing barges at the time of the incident.

Ballard County emergency services responded. The cause of the incident is under investigation.

Olmsted Locks and Dam is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville, project under construction in the lower section of the Ohio River near Olmsted, Ill. The project includes twin 110-foot by 1200-foot lock chambers and dam with navigable pass.  The project will replace outdated navigation locks and dams 52 and 53 upstream from the project site.
