Locking operations have been temporarily suspended at Markland Locks and Dam on the Ohio River (Ohio River Mile 531.5) due to high water. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District made the decision to suspend lock operations effective March 3, 2021, after close coordination with the U.S. Coast Guard and our industry partners. The suspension of lockages is expected to last 24-48 hours until conditions improve.

High water has caused conditions to deteriorate causing substantial out draft and drift build up on the upper end of the lock chamber and warrants suspension of locking operations until conditions improve. Once the river crests and drift on the upper end is cleared from the approach, locking may resume.

Vessels in the area should contact the Markland Locks and Dam to get into the queue.

USACE will reassess conditions tomorrow, March 4, and will closely coordinate updates with the U.S. Coast Guard and towing industry.
