GREEN RIVER LAKE, YEAR 2001 |
Standard Water Quality Monitoring |
Daily Tailwater Temperatures |
Tailwater temperatures are taken daily for comparison to state quidelines for downstream water temperatures. |
Water Chemistry/Dissolved Oxygen/Temperature/Turbidity |
Chemical water quality samples are collected at the damsite, inflow, and tailwater stations 4 times per year during thermal stratification. Physical data are collected at each lake, inflow, and tailwater station 4 times per year during thermal stratification. Temperature and dissolved oxygen profile data are collected at the damsite on a weekly basis beginning in mid-May and continuing until thermal destratification and complete mixing of the water column in fall. The data are used in the adjustment of reservoir water release elevations to regulate downstream water temperature, for ready evaluation of general water quality conditions in the reservoir, and for other water quality studies. |
Biological Parameters |
Phytoplankton and chlorophyll a samples are collected from each lake station 4 times per year during thermal stratification.
Macroinvertebrate samples are collected from inflow and tailwater stations 1 time per year in the fall. |
Sediments |
Sediment samples are collected for priority pollutant analysis from each lake station on a 5-year rotational basis. Sediment samples were last collected in Green River Lake in 1999. |
Water Quality Modeling |
CE-QUAL-W2 model calibration, verification, and preparation of the final report; including scenario runs, was complete in 2001. The CE-QUAL-W2 model is being used in the evaluation of watershed management practices on current and long-term reservoir water quality. |
Special Projects |
Green River Basin Watershed Study |
Sediment and water samples for additional parameter measurements are collected from inflow streams and upper lake stations in support of the Green River Basin Watershed Study in partnership with the Nature Conservancy and the Green and Tradewater Watershed Management Unit. |
PCB Monitoring |
Sediment and water samples are collected as needed to perform a QA/QC check of PCB levels in Green River Lake as part of an ongoing investigation regarding known contamination in a particular cove . |
