ROUGH RIVER LAKE, KY – U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District’s Rough River Lake was recently chosen to be a recipient of a 2012 Corps of Engineers Handshake Partnership Program Grant.

The $30,000 grant will be utilized to complete development of the Rough River Lake Visitor/Outdoor Learning Center. Rough River Lake

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has been working with the Rough River Lake Business and Tourism Association to evaluate and permanently change the fall drawdown of Rough River Lake. Specifically, the “current” drawdown starts on Sept. 15 and results in a 2-foot drop from summer pool (elevation 495 ft.) to elevation 493 ft. by Oct. 15. After which, the pool is drawn down to its winter pool elevation of 470 ft. by Dec. 1. Markland Locks and Dam, Warsaw, Ky.

LOUISVILLE, KY – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville Repair Station set the second of two 260 ton gate leaves at the downstream end of the Ohio River Markland navigation locks on Sept. 20. "People don't go around lifting that kind of weight every day," said Keith Browning, Louisville Repair Station, who directs the Henry M. Shreve gatelifter vessel, lock repairs and crew at the Markland Locks at Warsaw, Ky. (Upstream gates to be set end of September or beginning of October.*)
