Public meeting for the Nike SL-10 site to be held January 9
LOUISVILLE, KY. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) will be holding a public meeting to accept
comments on the Proposed Plan at the former Nike SL-10 site north of Marine, Illinois. USACE is proposing to clean
up groundwater at the Formerly Used Defense Site (FUDS) in Madison County.
The meeting will be held Monday, January 9, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Louis Latzer Memorial Library, 1001 9th
St., Highland, IL 62249.
The USACE has completed several investigations of the former Nike SL-10 launch site. Although groundwater is not
a source of drinking water in that area and contamination in groundwater at this site does not present an
unacceptable human health or ecological risk based on the current and likely future use of the property, various
remedial actions were evaluated to clean up the groundwater beneath the former Launch Area.
USACE encourages the public to review the project documents in the public record and submit comments on the
Proposed Plan. The documents are available at the Memorial Library in Highland, Illinois and the Proposed Plan can
also be found online at: http://www.lrl.usace.army.mil/Missions/Environmental/Nike-SL-10/.
Please send written comments postmarked no later than January 30, 2017 to the following mailing address:
