Louisville District announces updates to long-term camping policy

Published Nov. 4, 2021

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District is continuing its two-year trial period of the long-term camping policy for select USACE managed campground sites in the Green River Area, where customers will be able to reserve a campsite for a maximum 90-day period.

Long-term camping will be permitted during the designated operating season of each campground. Long-term camping patrons may use designated long-term camping sites for a period of no longer than 90 days each year at each lake.

These select campground sites will be available for reservation through www.recreation.gov on a first-come, first-served basis.

The USACE Louisville District managed campgrounds covered in the policy include:

Axtel (Rough River Lake)

Cave Creek (Rough River Lake)

Laurel Branch (Rough River Lake)

North Fork (Rough River Lake)

Tailwater (Barren River Lake)

The Narrows (Barren River Lake)

Holmes Bend (Green River Lake

Smith Ridge (Green River Lake)

Moutardier (Nolin River Lake

Wax (Nolin River Lake)

The daily rate charged for a long-term campsite will be comparable to the rate charged for a similar transient site. The America the Beautiful, Golden Age, Golden Access, or similar discounts will be applied to the daily rate of a long-term campsite, if applicable. Any refunds will be made using standard procedures.

Visitors staying under this policy must comply with all campground rules, regulations, policies and procedures. No campsite may be ‘subletted’ or otherwise rented to any other individual.

At Green River Lake and Rough River Lake, the minimum length of stay on these sites will initially be set at 14 days, although this minimum length of stay will decrease to one night on May 23, 2022.  This will still allow for shorter term reservations to be made in between long-term stays. The minimum length of stay for long-term sites will remain 14 days for the entire season at Barren River Lake and Nolin River Lake.
