The south (landside) chamber at McAlpine Locks and Dam (Ohio River mile 606.8) in Louisville, Kentucky, is currently closed to traffic due to a navigation accident involving the bridge over the lock chamber approach. Structural engineers from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District are on site to verify structural integrity and to perform an inspection for loose overhead debris.

The inspection is anticipated to be complete by 3:00 p.m. today, July 12, 2021.

The north (riverside) chamber remains closed to navigation traffic to facilitate repair of the miter gate J-seal, which is being performed by the USACE Heavy Capacity Fleet.

All mariners should take direction from the lock operators at McAlpine Locks and Dam.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will continue to coordinate closely with the U.S. Coast Guard and the towing industry during this temporary closure.
